MOSCOW, June 28, 2007 (GayRussia.ru)  –  Alexander Chuev from the Fair Russia party and deputy in the Russian State Duma, said last night that he had complained to the General Prosecutor about his ‘outing’ as a gay politician on live television last week.

Nikolai Alekseev, an organiser of Moscow Gay Pride, ‘outed’ Mr. Chuev on the K baryeru! Programme – the first-ever ‘outing’ is the history of Russian politics.

The Duma deputy gave no details of his complaint to the prosecution, but said in his Internet blog: “Let the investigators now to find out which crime there is in his actions”.

According to Mr. Chuev, the motives of disclosing of his homosexual orientation are political.

“It looks like the essence of provocation was that I really hit Alekseev in the face and then they start procedure to deprive me of my deputy immunity,” he wrote.

“The aim is to take me out of elections,” he insisted.

Mr. Chuev stressed that “guys from LDPR (Liberal Democratic Party) will not succeed.  They did not take into account that I know such methods and will not react.”

“Mr. Chuev probably knows very well similar famous legal cases in world history,” commented Mr. Alekseev today.  “Usually the one who initiates such cases, looses them.

“Chuev is still far from the popularity of Oscar Wilde, but the proceedings which the great writer initiated against Marquis of Queensbury under pressure from some people in his close circle finally brought his career and life to a collapse.”.

Mr. Alekseev suggested that “probably someone in Chuev’s party decided to get rid of him as fast as possible as he was a too controversial figure – that is why they pressured him to start proceedings which will lead to the investigation of the deputy’s private life.”

By applying to the prosecution department Mr. Chuev admitted the word “gay” to be an insult, though he did not say which article of the law violates pronouncing it.

Deputy Chuev is known for his bills to forbid propaganda of homosexuality and introducing religious education at schools.

He is regularly making homophobic statements and recently supported patrolling, by Orthodox youth, of the park in the centre of Moscow, used as a meeting spot of sexual minorities.
